Meta recently released an exciting new AI tool for creatives – an image generator called Imagine with Meta AI. After testing it out myself, I’m impressed with what it can do and wanted to share some thoughts.
Getting started with the tool is simple – just head to imagine.metaresearch.org and sign up for a free account. The interface is clean and intuitive. You start by entering a text prompt that describes what you want the AI to generate. For example, I tried “monkey jumping on bed” and within seconds, Imagine created four variations of that theme.
The image quality genuinely surprised me. The monkeys look lively and beds have decent detail. I’ve seen some other AI image generators really struggle with getting prompts right, but Imagine handled some silly ideas I threw at it pretty well. I even got it to create vector images by adding that to my prompt.
Once you generate images, you can download them as JPEGs at 1280×1280 resolution to use anywhere. I demonstrated how Photopea makes it easy to remove backgrounds from AI images with just one click. This is perfect for using them in other design projects or print-on-demand products.
The one catch right now is that the terms of service are vague around commercial usage of images. I couldn’t find a definitive answer if you can sell products with these AI generated designs. Hopefully, Meta provides more legal guidelines soon, but exercise some caution until then if you plan to upload to merch shops.
Overall, Imagine with Meta AI shows a lot of promise as a new outlet for AI creativity. Paired with a tool like ChatGPT to generate prompt ideas, you have an endless possibility of unique image designs at your fingertips. I’m excited to see where Meta takes this and what the community manages to create with it.
Let me know in the comments if you’ve tried out Imagine yet! I’d love to see what you come up with.
